Marché du Film, first held in 1959, has a long history and takes place every May alongside the Cannes Film Festival. It attracts film professionals and industry players from over 120 countries, with more than ten thousand total attendance. It is regarded as a distinguished festival that combines the art and business of filmmaking. In addition to awards, Marché du Film features over 4,000 events, forums, and business matchmaking activities focused on different film categories. It has become a globally significant industry event that drives diverse perspectives, including film production and sales.

Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) is making a big splash with films and projects it has supported being selected in multiple sections and making its presence felt with several projects pitching at the market. Six films supported by TAICCA’s co-production grant or investment will premiere at the festival, including: Rendez-Vous Avec Pol Pot in Cannes Premiere, The Shameless in Un Certain Regard, Locust in Critics Week, Mongrel in Directors’ Fortnight, Colored in the Immersive Competition, and Missing Pictures: Naomi Kawase in the Immersive Selection. Taiwanese talents will be further presented on the show as Traversing the Mist by Tung-Yen Chou is also selected for the Immersive Competition; actor Eddie Peng is headlining Black Dog in Un Certain Regard; and actors Lee Kang-Sheng and Wu Ke-Xi are featured in Blue Sun Palace in Critics Week.

At 2024 Marché du Film, Golden Horse Goes to Cannes will present five projects, four of which are supported by TAICCA’s investment. The Songs from Within, which is also supported by TAICCA’s investment, will be pitching at the Docs by the Sea Showcase, under Cannes Docs. Having garnered two awards last year at TAICCA’s Taiwan Creative Content Fest (TCCF), Second Lead is listed in Shoot the Book! as one of the four books from Taiwan selected for the program. At the Asian IP Showcase in the Spotlight Asia program, Don’t Cry, Dancing Girls the Musical and OPUS: Echo of Starsong will join the pitching. Meanwhile, two emerging producers from Taiwan, Jacqueline W. Liu and Yu-Hao Su, are taking part in the impACT Lab for finance and production training, as well as interactive exchange with international producers.

TAICCA is setting up a Taiwan Pavilion to showcase 104 works at the market with 44 companies, and participating in various collaborative events including Spotlight Asia,  impACT Lab, Co-production Night, and the Taiwan Cinema Night. These events will create opportunities for Taiwanese filmmakers to network with international talents, expand their connections, and invite international professionals to participate in the Taiwan Creative Content Fest (November 7th to 12th, 2024), accelerating more international co-productions and cooperations.
