Taiwan’s Hottest New Productions and Stars to Take the Stage at FILMART

Four highly anticipated Taiwanese productions are set to make a grand appearance at Asia’s leading entertainment content marketplace, the Hong Kong International Film & TV Market (FILMART). Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) will present the latest movies and TV series, including Penguin Girl, That Burning House, 96 Minutes, and A Controversial Entertainer, at the TAIWAN SPOTLIGHT SHOWCASE, scheduled for 5 PM on March 18 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The event will bring together the key creative teams and cast members to introduce the hottest productions. Additionally, TAICCA will host the Taiwan Pavilion at FILMART, promoting diverse Taiwanese content to global buyers and supporting Taiwanese companies in expanding their reach into overseas markets. Meanwhile, at the Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum (HAF), there will be one Taiwan project and six Taiwan-international co-production projects featured, seeking investment opportunities and fostering international collaboration.

That Burning House

 

At the TAIWAN SPOTLIGHT SHOWCASE, audiences will be introduced to four of Taiwan’s most exciting upcoming productions. Among them is Penguin Girl, a romantic film premiering today, with actors Charlize LAMB and Hua CHEN making a special appearance. Also featured is That Burning House, a film by the creative team behind Tears on Fire, which delves into social issues surrounding child protection and juvenile crime, with actors Fandy FAN and TSENG Jing Hua set to attend. The action movie 96 Minutes takes place on a high-speed rail train running between Taipei and Kaohsiung, where a deadly bomb crisis unfolds; cast members Lee-Zen LEE, Yi-Ti YAO, and Jacob WANG will be present at the showcase. The black comedy TV series A Controversial Entertainer tells the story of an unexpected transformation of five guys into top male hosts. This TV series will welcome an impressive lineup, including actress Nana LEE, producer-actor CHEN I, and eight other cast members, ensuring a dazzling presence.

Furthermore, in the “In-Development Projects (IDP)” category at this year’s HAF, Taiwanese music video director Bill CHIA’s debut feature film ‘Indigo Boy’ and the Taiwan-Malaysia co-production The Age of Goodbyes have been selected. Meanwhile, in the “Works-in-Progress (WIP)” section, Taiwan continues to shine with five international co-productions, including Fuxi, Girlfriends, Moonglow, A Woman Builds, and the animated project A Mighty Adventure. These projects will be pitched at HAF to seek funding for post-production, distribution, and festival collaborations.

 

At the Taiwan Pavilion, a robust lineup of 90 Taiwanese companies will showcase over 250 titles across various genres, highlighting the depth and creativity of Taiwan’s audiovisual industry. Among the standout titles is the reality show The King of Nightmarket, which has sparked social media buzz by spotlighting Taiwan’s vibrant night market culture. The series Tabloid, adapted from a bestselling novel by Mirror Fiction, explores the darker side of Taiwan’s entertainment industry. The sci-fi mystery drama -197°C, directed by Award-winning filmmakers FUNG Kai, TSAI Yueh-hsun, and CHEN Kuan-chung, features an ensemble cast including Roy CHIU, CHEN Yi-han, and Derek CHANG. The romance series Marriage Exposed, starring Ariel LIN and Jerry YAN, delves into themes of marriage and love through the lens of intimacy. S+PLUS, a hip-hop dance competition reality show, gathers top-tier street dancers from Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and Singapore, competing for the prestigious title of “Asia’s Best Dance Crew”. Meanwhile, Harlem YU takes on the ultimate cycling challenge in the documentary series Go Ride, chronicling his 1,200-kilometer journey around Taiwan. On the documentary front, Dear Black Sheep, a tear-jerking film produced and narrated by Bowie TSANG, sheds light on cancer awareness. Horror fans can look forward to HAUNTED MOUNTAINS: THE YELLOW TABOO, a chilling film from the team behind The Tag-Along. Romance lovers will be drawn to Summer Blue Hour, a film adaptation of the popular novel by Qing Cai, starring SHIH Bo-yu, CHENG Yu-xi, and LIN Zi-hong, showcasing Taiwan’s rich storytelling landscape.
